One for all, all for one is the well known motto of the three musketeers Aramis, Athos en Porthos who, together with their friend d’Artagnan, are the key figures in the stories of Alexandre Dumas. The work One for all… voices the four characters and their adventures. The mysterious beginning stands for the noble, attractive but als mysterious Athos. The quick following movement displays the brave d’Artagnan who leads in the battle against everyone opposing the king. The third movement - in irregular time – stands for Aramis. He led a life as clergyman but was also in for intrige and female beauty... Finally Porthos. This enjoyer of all the pleasures of life is displayed in the fourth movement. De four parts follow each other almost without interruption and are thematically connected. After all: One for all, all for one!
