Benchmark

Benchmark was commissioned by the federation of bands in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf for its anniversary in 2015. The commissioners asked for a short light piece to be performed by all bands at the same time. The works opens majestically with the main theme followed by a gospel-rock recapitulation of it. After a short fugue like interlude the main theme is repeated and the work closes with flair.
The title Benchmark was chosen because of the name of the municipality in which de federation is active.‘Stelling’ means ‘judge’. A ‘bencher’ is also often a judge. Hence the title Benchmark, marking a festive anniversary.
